Please permit me some of your valuable space to acknowledge and thank Ali Islam, Abdullah Chowdhury, Shanto Islam of Mohammadpur for the blessings of Christmas they bestowed upon me through Green Watch. It was very kind and thoughtful of them and profoundly appreciated.

I’m so pleased there are at least three people among the 175-million strong population of Bangladesh thinking of me in that way! Thank you Ali, Abdullah and Shanto!

While I have your attention (and know you are all of good nature by what you did), I request you to give some thought to our homeless, often-abused, and hungry friends who roam the streets in constant search for food and compassion. I’m particularly referring to stray dogs, but if you encounter a bear or a gorilla, include them as well!

A dog is man’s best friend – UNQUESTIONABLY! If dogs did not exist in this world there would be no love and no sincerity whatsoever. A dog does not play mind games as humans do, they tell you they love you, mean it, and continuously show it.

So here is what I request you to do... place all the left over food that dogs eat (chicken, beef, mutton, egg, rice, bread and so on) in a plastic bag and not into your trashcan. The next time you leave your home take it with you and give it to the first stray dog you meet. It’s that simple.

Personally, I try to give food to female dogs who may be milk-feeding young puppies and need all the nourishment they can get, but if you give the food to any stray dog its an act of compassion and their tails will reach to the sky in appreciation.

It is sinful to waste God’s food when it can benefit some of God’s other creatures. Hold the written word DOG up to a mirror and see that D-O-G is an anagram of G-O-D. Some say if God were to visit earth, a dog would be His constant companion.  (Of course women say it would be HER constant companion!)

I do hope Ali, Abdullah, and Shanto you will set the above example within your own homes and among your friends for them to copy and, perhaps, eventually lift the worry, heartbreak, and sadness from the minds of our canine friends who are simply down on their luck.

Thank you Ali, Abdullah, and Shanto for your affectionate thoughtful deed. May Allah bless you with the knowledge needed to excel in all your school exams and achieve what your hearts desire.

Happiness!
