A letter sent from the center to Ramgati and Kamalnagar BNP units in Lakshmipur-4 constituencies has caused widespread reaction. The letter directed Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) president ASM Abdur Rab to assist him in conducting its organizational activities. After receiving the letter, there is anger and dissatisfaction among the local BNP activists. Controversy has started on social media, party supporters are getting into arguments.
According to local sources, a letter signed by BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on October 22 instructing ASM Abdur Rab to assist in party activities, which has given rise to speculations among the Trinamool that ASM Abdur Rab may get Paddy Sheesh's nomination in the upcoming elections. As a result, local leaders and activists are dissatisfied because they want former MP and central leader of BNP ABM Ashraf Uddin Nizan as a candidate for this seat.
Ashraf Uddin Nijan is wanted as a candidate as per demand of Trinamool
Kamalnagar and Ramgati upazila BNP leaders and activists claimed that Ashraf Uddin Nijan has kept the party well organized for 16 years. His close relationship with Trinamool leaders and activists and his presence in party activities. Kamalnagar Upazila BNP convener Golam Quader and member secretary Nurul Huda Chowdhury said, "Trinamool will not support Nijan if anyone else is nominated. He has strengthened the party with the leaders and activists, and now it will not be accepted if anyone else is forced as a candidate."
Strong reactions on social media
In social media posts and comments, activists have expressed surprise. Juba Dal leader Mustafa Sarwar wrote sarcastically, "This is not a nomination paper, but an instruction for smooth conduct of political activities." BNP leader Md Sharif commented, "Ashraf Uddin Nijan is the last refuge of the people of Kamalnagar-Ramgatti." Another supporter wrote, "He could still win a third term if he gets nominated after 2018."
Response by AS Abdur Rab and his wife Tanya Rab
Several attempts were made to contact AS Abdur Rab regarding the matter but his response was not received. But his wife Tanya Robb said, "Time will tell, we don't want to get into any controversy."
BNP center has informed that this letter has been sent not for election but for organizational support. However, activists alleged that ASM Abdur Rabb's followers are campaigning for nomination by misinterpreting the letter, which is causing confusion.
