Bangladesh Issues Passports to 22,000 Rohingyas in KSA
Bangladesh has issued passports to around 22,000 Rohingyas living in Saudi Arabia following verification, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said on Monday.
He said efforts are underway to speed up passport delivery for a total of 69,000 Rohingyas residing in the kingdom. A special team has already been sent to Saudi Arabia to expedite the process.
The development came up during a courtesy meeting at the Secretariat between the home minister and Abdullah Zafer bin Abiyah, who requested faster progress on the matter.
The minister said passports are being issued only after proper scrutiny and on the basis of required documents and eligibility criteria. He made it clear that there would be no tolerance for corruption or irregularities in the process.
He also directed officials to reassess the identity status of Rohingya passport holders and prepare a comprehensive list of those currently living in Saudi Arabia.
The move is part of ongoing efforts to streamline documentation and address the status of Rohingya migrants residing abroad.
