Dr. Khalilur Rahman, High Representative to the Chief Adviser on Rohingya Crisis and Priority Issues, called on Rohingyas to present a unified stance ahead of the "International Conference on the Rohingya Muslims" set to take place at the United Nations later this year.
He emphasized that a cohesive position from the Rohingya community, a key stakeholder in the conference, will be crucial in ensuring a timely, action-oriented outcome that supports their sustainable repatriation.
Dr. Rahman made the appeal during a meeting with displaced Rohingyas at camps in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar, as reported by the Foreign Ministry. The conference was mandated by the United Nations General Assembly in September 2024, following a proposal by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
He also urged the Rohingya community to avoid illegal and violent actions, focusing instead on positive efforts to resolve their crisis. Participants pledged to create a unified platform and expressed gratitude to the people of Bangladesh for their support, as well as to Professor Yunus for advocating for their cause internationally.
Dr. Rahman also met with the UN humanitarian team assisting displaced Rohingyas, where UN Resident Coordinator Gwyn Lewis reaffirmed full support from UN leadership for the Chief Adviser and his efforts regarding the Rohingya crisis and the upcoming conference.
