Remittance inflow US$ 6,788.57mn in 6 months

The remittance inflow in the country over the first half of the current fiscal (2013-14) from July to December last stood at US$ 6,788.57 million, according to the latest statistics released by the central bank on Thursday. The amount is US$ 613.21 million lower than the remittance earnings of the first half of the previous fiscal (2012-2013), showed the records of the Foreign Exchange Policy Department of the Bangladesh Bank (BB).   The BB records also showed that the country earned remittance worth US$ 1,216.49 million in December last.   Remittance worth US$ 780.47 came through private commercial banks, while US$ 405.5, US$ 15.41 and US$ 15.03 came through state-owned commercial banks, foreign commercial banks and specialised banks respectively.   The country’s remittance earnings stood at US$ 14,461.14 million in the last fiscal (2012-2013). – UNB
