Savar gang rape principal accused on remand

Dhaka – The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Dhaka yesterday granted two days’ remand to interrogate Liton Ali Mondol, prime accused in a case filed over gang rape of two girls in Savar Municipality area.Senior Executive Magistrate Atiqul Islam of the CJM Court of Dhaka passed order after hearing on a 7-day remand plea of the Investigation Officer of the case, who is also an inspector of Savar Police Station. The police arrested the prime accused of the case from Manikganj district on Tuesday.
On a secret information, a team of Savar Police Station with the help of Manikganj police raided in Charkhalshi area of Daulatpur upazila in the afternoon and arrested Liton Ali, a former source of police. On Saturday, two other accused in the case, Mukarram Hossain and Mizanur Rahman were placed on a two-day remand each.
On July 6 (night), Liton asked the two girls over telephone to come to Savar from Gazipur with a promise to give them opportunity in modeling. As soon as they came to the spot, Liton along with his associates confined the girls in a room on the first floor of a six-storied building in Sobhanbagh area of Savar town and raped them in turns.
Hearing screams of the victims, some local people and a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police rushed to the spot and rescued the girls on July 7 (morning). – Special Correspondent
