RAB arrests couple pretending to be NSI officials in Ctg

Chattogram, May 24 - Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested a couple from Chattogram's Sitakunda upazila who identified them as National Security Intelligence (NSI) officials, and swindled money from people.

The arrestees are Mumtaz Begum, 34 and her husband Mujibur Rahman, 46.

They were arrested from Premtola College Road area of Sitakunda on Thursday (May 22), Senior Assistant Director (Mass Media) of RAB-7 Sharif-ul-Alam said in a media statement on Friday.

RAB also seized 960pc Yaba tablets from their possession.

The elite force RAB said victim Manjur Alam was seeking a job after passing SSC. He met Mumtaz Begum at her sister's wedding in 2021. At that time, Manjur came to know that Mumtaz Begum is the deputy director of NSI, Chattogram unit.

Pretending to be an NSI official, Mumtaz Begum took more than TK34 lakh from Manjur in the name of giving a job in NSI. "And her husband Mujibur Rahman helped her in this fraudulence."

They were handed over to Sitakunda police station for legal action, said the RAB official.-UNB
