Dr. Yunus Calls for Use of Modern Communication Tools in Security

Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus on Monday directed the police and law enforcement agencies to establish a central command center to closely monitor and coordinate the law-and-order situation across the country.
“We must set up a command center to streamline coordination among all police and security agencies,” Dr. Yunus said at a high-level security meeting at the State Guest House Jamuna. He emphasized the need for security forces to fully utilize the latest communication technologies to ensure quick response in critical situations.
The meeting was attended by key officials including Home Adviser Lieutenant General (retired) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Khuda Baksh Chiowdhury, Home Secretary Nasimul Gani, and chiefs of the police, BGB, RAB, DMP, Coast Guard, and Special Branch.
Dr. Yunus stressed that the new command structure should facilitate seamless communication among all law enforcement agencies and police stations nationwide. He urged security forces to remain on high alert against any potential threats to public order, especially given the high stakes of this year. "We must act as if we are in a war-like situation. We cannot let anyone destabilize the country," he said.
The Chief Adviser also pointed to efforts by associates of the ousted autocrat Sheikh Hasina to spread disinformation and provoke chaos, calling for heightened vigilance and a united stance against such threats.
Dr. Yunus stressed the importance of safeguarding human rights and ensuring the protection of religious and ethnic minorities. “Our global reputation depends on our ability to protect minorities,” he remarked, calling for transparency in handling related issues.
Furthermore, Dr. Yunus instructed the police to launch an operation against extortionists to prevent price hikes during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam reported that 10 teams have been formed to monitor cases related to the atrocities committed during the July-August violence, calling for these cases to be fast-tracked without harassing innocent people.
The Chief of Police also mentioned that Bangladesh has requested Interpol to issue a Red Notice for Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India during the mass uprising. "We hope to receive a response soon," said Alam.
DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjad Ali highlighted that incidents of mugging and snatching in the capital have decreased following increased police patrols. "Our efforts will continue," he assured.
