Dhaka-The Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka on Wednesday deferred the hearing on whether to take cognizance in a sedition case lodged against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia over her comments on the number of martyrs of the country’s liberation war, to June 12.Judge Qamrul Hossain Molla of the court passed the order upon a petition filed by Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Advocate Sanaullah Miah seeking time as his client was not
able to appear before the court today due to her illness.
Earlier on January 25, Supreme Court lawyer Momtaz Uddin Ahmed Mehedi filed the case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka. On December 21 last year, Khaleda Zia at a discussion meeting held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh raised question about the number of Liberation War martyrs.
“There’re controversies over how many were martyred in the Liberation War. There’re also many books and documents on the controversies,” she said.
