Speakers for changed mindset to prevent repression against women

Speakers at a huge human chain and rally programme have stressed for concerted efforts of all with a changed mindset to ensure equal women rights and dignity by preventing all sorts of repressions against women.A number of government and non-governmental organisations organised the programme in observance of the International Women Repression Prevention Fortnight- 2014 in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in the city today (Tuesday).RDRS Bangladesh, Bangladesh Mohila Parishad (BMP), Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association, Pollishree, BRAC, BLAST, World Vision Bangladesh, Association for Social Organisation and Development (ASOD), District Change Makers’ Jyote, Debi Chowdhurani Polli Unnayan Kendra, Sushashoner Janno Nagorik (SJN), Underprivileged Children’s Educational Programmes (UCEP- Bangladesh), Nagorik Uddog, Setu Bandhon, Hijra Unnayan Sangstha, educational institutions and other organisations took part in the programmes.Earlier, a huge colourful rally participated by the government and NGO officials, employees, women activists, human rights and socio-cultural activists, professionals, teachers, students and elite, was brought out in the city.With District Women Affairs Officer Shamima Akhter Banu in the chair, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Mostain Billah attended and addressed the programme as the chief guest.President of district unit of BMP Hasna Chowdhury, Vice-president of Peshajibi Forum for Prevention of Repression on Women and Children Principal Fakhrul Anam Benzu, language veteran Mir Anisul Haque Payara, General Secretary of district unit of SJN Akbar Hossain, Advocate Munir Chowdhury and Banamali Paul addressed as special guests.Human rights activist Advocate Shirin, Senior Women Rights Officer of RDRS Bangladesh Somseara Bilkis, Members of Pollishree Zannatul Ferdous and Asaduzzaman Afzal, representatives of different organisations, addressed among others.The speakers narrated prevailing situation about repressions against women in various forms and stressed for comprehensive efforts of all concerned including the GO-NGOs, civil society and every citizen for rooting out violence against women.It is not possible to achieve the desired socioeconomic uplift for building a sustainably developed country without ensuring equal rights, dignity and honour of the womenfolk, half of the country’s total population, they said.They stressed for creating social awareness by changing the prevailing mindset towards the womenfolk from every family and launching a vigorous social movement to eliminate all types of repressions and violence against women.The chief guest stressed for building a more civilised and developed society through ensuring equal rights, dignity and honour of the womenfolk and their enhanced participation in all sorts of development and political activities at all levels.RANGPUR, Nov 25, 2014 (BSS)
