Patuakhali: Class teacher Md Riaz Uddin severely beat Grade I student Md. Tausikur Rahman Siam (7) with a scale because the line of writing in the paper of the class room was not straight.

In this incident, the parent of the victim student, Mst. Sumamma Akhter Sumi, protested and the assistant teacher Riaz Uddin behaved disrespectfully with the parent.

The incident took place at Rahmatpur KGA Government Primary School on Monday (August 1) morning.

Aggrieved parents Md. Habib Howlader and Mst. Sumamma Akter Sumi complained to the Acting Headmaster of the primary school and the Upazila Primary Education Officer.

Mst. Sumamma Akhter Sumi , parent of the victim child student, said, “My son is a student of class 1 of Rahmatpur KGA Government Primary School, his class roll 22.

Sitting in the class room, the class teacher beat him inhumanely with a scale because he could not write straight lines in the paper. He also misbehaved with me as I protested.'

Parent Sumi also said, "Earlier last Wednesday, the teacher hit my son with a scale and on Thursday. This caused the child Siyam to have a fever and he was afraid and did not want to come to school.'

However, the accused teacher Md Riaz Uddin denied the incident of beating the student. Apart from this, despite several attempts to establish a connection on the cell phone to get the statement of the head teacher, the connection was not found.

Achutananda Das, Upazila Primary Education Officer, said, "After the parents of the children came and complained verbally, teacher Riaz Uddin was called and warned."
