‘70,000 edu’ institutions to get broadband internet in next year’

Education Minister Dr Deepu Moni has said that around 70,000 educational institutions of the country will be given broadband internet connection within the next one year.



Education Minister Dr Deepu Moni has said that around 70,000 educational institutions of the country will be given broadband internet connection within the next one year.

She said while speaking virtually as the chief guest at the ‘4th Electrical, Computer and Telecommunication Engineering’ international conference organized by the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Technology of the Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) on Friday (December 30). The conference was organized for two days at RUET Auditorium.

The minister said, “Currently 12 crore people of the country are covered by broadband internet. Within the next year, 1.10 lakh rural institutions in the country will come under broadband connection through optical fiber cable. Out of this, broadband connection will be given to 70,000 educational institutions.”

About 465 researchers, teachers, engineers and technicians from different countries participated in the two-day international conference. 69 technical papers and 6 key-note papers will be presented in the conference. Besides, four invited talks and a workshop will be held.

The best three papers in the conference will be awarded crests and certificates. The closing ceremony of the conference will be held on Saturday evening at Simanto Obokash of Rajshahi city.
