60 glorious years: Celebrating the anniversary of BTV

On the occasion of the glorious 60th anniversary celebration of Bangladesh Television, the Director-General of BTV, Dr. Mohammad Jahangir Alam, conveyed greetings to the artists, advertisers, and viewers of BTV.



The first television in the world to broadcast in the Bengali language was Bangladesh Television (BTV). On December 25, it celebrated a glorious 60th years of broadcasting as the national media of the country.

The members of the BTV family observed the day through a colorful event. Dr. Hasan Mahmud, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Md. Humayun Kabir Khondokar, the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, was present as a special guest. This information was conveyed by Mahfuza Akhtar, the General Manager of BTV's Dhaka center."

Furthermore, it was learned that BTV organized a delightful cultural event at the BTV premises. In the cultural event, artists such as Farida Parveen, Rafiqul Alam, Naqib Khan, Nishita Barua, Anupoma Mukti, Rajib, Salma, and the band 'Chirkut' performed. Warda Rehab and Ivan Shahriar Sohag directed the dance performances. Additionally, various presentations were showcased on BTV throughout the day.

After the 8 am news, it directly followed the special segment 'Ajker Sokal,' artists Anima Roy and Ayesha Jabin Deepa performed live music. After the 12 pm news, prominent artists Keramat Mawla, Rafiqunnabi, and Abdul Mannan were present for an art event and a live discussion on fine arts. At 3 pm, the exclusive program 'BTV Natoker Ekal Sekal' was broadcasted live with Piyush Bondyopadhyay hosting, featuring discussions with guests M. Hamid, Dolly Johur, Abdul Mannan, Rownak Hasan, Swagota, and Brindaban Das. Additionally, throughout the day, there were compilations of songs by renowned music artists, collections from magazine programs, valuable programs from the DIT sector, and broadcasts from Rampura for remembrance and well-wishing.

Notably, in 1964, on December 25, the journey of the television channel began in the lower floor of the then DIT building in Dhaka. Subsequently, as a government institution, Bangladesh Television embarked on its journey in the year following the birth of Bangladesh. Under the direction of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, it integrated modern technology and, on February 9, 1975, relocated from the DIT building to its own premises in Rampura. In 1980, BTV entered a new era by introducing colorful screens to the viewers. BTV's broadcast has now reached people nationwide through High Definition (HD) and terrestrial, satellite, and mobile apps. With a commitment to progressive changes and the assurance of credibility, this national media has now completed 60 years, touching the lives of people across the country
