Kalapara: On the holy month of Ramadan, construction of structures is going on at Kuakata beach one after the other. On both sides of the zero point of the beach, beach owners are openly constructing paved and semi-paved illegal structures. Locals complain that the concerned administration is not stopping the construction work due to mysterious reasons.

Although there is a rule to take the approval of the municipality and beach management committee for the construction of structures in Kuakata tourism area, Sajedul Islam Hero or KM Shahjalal are continuing to build structures on the beach without paying attention to the rules and regulations. In this way, the district administration and the beach management committee are not able to take action even though the squatters are constantly building structures without caring about the tourism environment and surroundings. And this has caused the environmental disaster of Kuakata beach area. The waste, faeces and urine of these establishments are being thrown into the sea water. Tourists coming to Kuakata are getting frustrated.

It is known that more than half a hundred structures have been constructed on the land adjacent to the beach outside the embankment adjacent to Kuakata intersection. The district administration has taken the initiative to evict these beach lands claiming them several times, but it has failed again and again due to the complexity of the case. The district administration is not able to reach any solution due to the fact that the lawsuit has been going on for a long time with the government against the occupiers regarding the ownership claims of these beach areas.

Meanwhile, before the start of the holy month of Ramadan, Sajedul Islam Hero is constructing a three-storey shop and residential hotel with an angle in the name of Sardar Market. Apart from this, Hotel Sea Queen authorities have started construction of newly paved facilities.

Barisal Divisional Coordinator of Environmental Organization (BELA) Lincoln Bayan said, Kuakata beach receives thousands of tourists from the country and abroad. It is illegal to construct hazardous buildings there.

He also said that despite the directives to protect the beauty of the beach and create a tourism environment, the encroachers are constantly desperate to occupy more.

Sajedul Islam Hero, the owner of Sardar Market under construction at Kuakata Beach, claims that there is a court verdict and decree in his favor on the beach.

Mahipur Union (Land) Assistant Officer Md. Rafiqul Islam said that the encroachers are threatening to block or prohibit the construction of structures by occupying the beach.

Kalapara UNO Md. Jahangir Hossain told the media that the beach management committee had a meeting to protect the beach environment and prevent encroachment. Action will be taken against anyone who constructs illegal structures. An illegal installation has already been removed. - Gofran Biswas Palash
