Kuakata looks deserted in the absence of tourists

Patuakhali: Kuakata, the tourist town known as the daughter of the sea, has become empty of tourists due to the adverse effects of the hartal-blockade called by BNP-Jamat. The zero point of the beach was quiet since Wednesday morning in the second day of the three-day blockade after a one-day hartal by BNP-Jamat, with the absence of tourists. The umbrella bench on the beach was lying idle. Photographers, speed boat drivers and tourism related businessmen have lost their jobs. Tourists have canceled all hotel and motel bookings. At the beginning of the tourist season, the tourism businessmen have expressed disappointment that the beach is empty of tourists.

However, public transport on internal routes was normal. No long-distance bus left from Kuakata. The policemen were seen to be active in the safety of people.

Shaheen, an umbrella bench trader on the beach, said that because of Jamaat-BNP blockade, tourists are not like before. We common traders are in dire straits. Even if the car runs on the internal route, people do not board the bus for fear of attack and vandalism. - Gofran Biswas Palash
