Around 100 Tourists Rescued from Stranded Ship in Teknaf

A tourist ship carrying around 100 passengers became stranded off the Baharchhara coast in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, on December 26 due to engine failure while returning from St. Martin's Island.


The passengers were successfully rescued by Coast Guard and Bangladesh Navy personnel around 10:00 PM, officials confirmed. As of 10:20 PM, the ship remained stranded, but efforts to free it were ongoing.

Teknaf Assistant Commissioner (Land) Arif Ullah Nezami said rescue operations were being carried out with the help of the Coast Guard, Navy, and local fishermen. The MV Green Line had departed St. Martin's Island at 4:00 PM but encountered engine trouble near Kachpia, off the Baharchhara Union coast, around 7:30 PM.

Nezami reassured the public that the ship was close to shore and all tourists on board were safe. "They are expected to be brought ashore shortly," he said.

Hossain Islam Bahadur, General Secretary of the Sea Cruise Operators Owners Association of Bangladesh, also confirmed that the ship was near the coast, emphasizing there was no cause for concern.
