Students block roads in Natore demanding justice for Asiya

Natore, 13 Mar —Students from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement staged a protest in Natore on Thursday blocking roads and demanding a swift trial for the rapists and murderers of Magura rape victim Asiya.

Around 7:30 pm, the protesting students gathered at Swadhinata Chattar in Natore town, chanting slogans. They later sat on the main road, creating a blockade that lasted for approximately half an hour.

They also issued a 48-hour ultimatum, calling for a speedy and public trial of the rapists and their accomplices.

Abdus Samad Shishir, convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Natore district unit, Obaidullah Mim, joint convener, and other students were among the protesting group.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Rape Platform (Dhorshon Birodhi Monch) organised a gayebana janaza for Asiya at the VC square of Dhaka University on Thursday at 7:30 pm. After the janaza, the crowd marched towards the Raju Sculpture while chanting slogans for justice for Asiya.

Earlier, the 8-year-old rape victim from Magura, who was battling for her life, passed away at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka on Thursday. She breathed her last around 1 pm despite receiving advanced medical care and the relentless efforts of expert doctors at CMH.

Later, she was brought to Magura stadium by a helicopter around 5:15 pm and laid to eternal rest at her village home in Jaria village, Sreepur upazila, Magura, on Thursday evening.
