EPA, FTA with Japan to Boost Bangladesh Trade: Adviser
Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin and Japanese Envoy Iwama Kiminori
Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin said that an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Japan would significantly enhance trade ties and create new opportunities for Bangladesh.
He made the remarks during a meeting on Tuesday with Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Iwama Kiminori, where the two discussed the potential of an FTA and EPA, as well as the current trade landscape between the two nations.
Sheikh Bashiruddin highlighted Bangladesh’s emerging economy and its potential to strengthen its global market position through a free trade deal with Japan. He noted the transparency and trust that define the Bangladesh-Japan relationship and expressed optimism that future trade expansion would further solidify these ties.
The Adviser also mentioned the interim government’s efforts to build good governance, which he believes will help unlock Bangladesh’s full economic potential.
Ambassador Iwama emphasized Japan’s longstanding friendship with Bangladesh, stating that expanded trade would deepen this partnership and benefit both countries.
Commerce Secretary Md. Salim Uddin also attended the meeting.
