A historic milestone was achieved at Mongla Port, the country’s second-largest seaport, as a consignment of wheat imported from Argentina was unloaded for the first time.

Abdus Sobhan Sardar, Assistant Controller of the Mongla Food Controller Office, reported that the vessel carrying 50,200 metric tonnes (MT) of wheat initially docked at Chittagong Port. There, 30,120 MT of wheat were unloaded, and the remaining portion was scheduled to be offloaded at Mongla Port.

The vessel arrived at Mongla Port on Friday, and unloading operations began Saturday afternoon after a physical test of the wheat, Sardar confirmed.

Out of the total unloaded wheat, 13,080 MT will be stored at the port, while the remaining wheat will be distributed to various regions, including Barishal, Khulna, and Rajbari, to meet local demand, Sardar added.
