Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport is just 17 km away from the main city

Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport is just 17 km away from the main city. It takes one to two hours to overcome this small distance following the traffic jam. The problem is almost solved as the newly made 16-km elevated expressway from Lalkhan Bazar to Shah Amanat Airport will be inaugurated soon.
Around 70 percent task of the expressway has been done already. The authority is mulling to open a part of the elevated expressway within December next.
The Project Director engineer Mahfuzur Rahman said, the expressway from Lalkhan Bazar to Shah Amanat Airport is an important project. The construction of it was started in 2019. Leaving all kinds of barrier, the construction task is underway in full swing. 300 pillars of 379 are completed.
The project is expected to be 100% complete by 2024. However, the cost of this project has already been increased by 32 percent, the engineer said.
Earlier on July 11, 2017, the ECNEC approved the project worth TK 3.250crore. Later, the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the construction of the project on February 24, 2019.
