With the opening of the two new stations, commuters are able to enjoy the metro rail using all nine stations from Uttara to Agargaon.

Shewrapara and Uttara South stations were opened to commuters at 8am, said Mahfuzur Rahman, manager of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL).

According to the DMTCL sources the authorities have formed two teams that will coordinate with the operation teams of the Uttara South and Shewrapara stations for operation.

On December 28, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the country's first elevated metro rail service, setting a milestone in the country's communication history.

She opened an 11.73-km part of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line-6 of the metro rail project from Diabari to Agargaon by unveiling its plaque at Diabari in Dhaka.

Currently, metro rail service is available on the route from 8:30am to 12:30pm. The new schedule will be from 8am to 2pm from April 5, considering the passengers' demand and aiming to provide more services, said a press conference on Thursday.

The performance tests for the Agargaon to Motijheel section will be conducted after July and metro rail operation on the Uttara-Motijheel route is set to begin in December.
