Repayment of Metrorail loan starts with Tk 55 crore to GoB

The repayment of the loan taken for construction of MRT Line-6 started with some Tk 55.30 crore paid to the government in the first installment on Monday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received a cheque of Tk 55,29,76,060 as the first installment of the loan at the outset of the Cabinet meeting on Monday.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader handed over the cheque to her at the outset of the Cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister at her office.

Besides, the third and fourth installments of Padma bridge loan were paid at the time.

The premier received a cheque of Tk 316,02,69,093 from Obaidul Quader as the third and fourth installment of the Padma Bridge loan.

“Tk 316 crore was deposited to the Prime Minister as the 3rd and 4th installment of Padma Bridge loan and Tk 55 crore was deposited as 1st installment of Metrorail loan,” said Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain at a press briefing after the Cabinet meeting.   

On April 5, 2023, the first and second installments of Padma Bridge loan were paid to the government, reports UNB.
