Crowds of homebound passengers along the Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Mymensingh Highways at Gazipur have stepped up since Tuesday morning till Wednesday morning. As the day advances, vehicles have been proceeding slowly. Passenger pressure on the highways is increasing after the announcement of holidays at various industries and factories. The pressure may increase further in the afternoon.

Vehicles proceed intermittently from Safipur to Chandra on the Dhaka-Tangail highway. Meanwhile, long queues of vehicles were seen at Chandra three roads intersection due to the pressure of additional passengers.

The traffic congestion is increasing with the large number of trucks carrying cattle and vehicles carrying Eid holidaymakers. This is causing suffering to the passengers alike.

Atiqul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Naojor Highway police station said: “Pressure of vehicles carrying Eid holidaymakers is increasing since the morning. Rain has added traffic pressure further. Highway police along with members of the law and order force are on duty at important places on the highway to clear the traffic.”
