Chattogram teacher pushed off moving bus over fare dispute

Chattogram, Nov 28 -- A bus helper pushed a school teacher off a moving bus in the Station Road area of the city on Saturday noon.

The injured was identified as Rahmat Ullah. He is an assistant teacher at Habibullah Government Primary School in the Panchlaish area of the city.

Abhijitat Barua, a colleague of the injured teacher, said that Rahmat Ullah was a trainee of PTI (Primary Training Institute) in Sadarghat area. He used to come to PTI from his home in the Oxygen area of the city.

He got on the bus from Oxygen area to go to PTI this morning. The rent from New Market to Oxygen used to be Tk 10 but now it's Tk 15 after increase of fare. But when the bus helper demanded Tk 18, he protested. At one stage of the altercation, the helper pushed him out of the moving bus, leaving him seriously injured.

Later, locals rescued him and took him to the National Hospital of the area.

Nejam Uddin, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali police station said the injured school teacher was admitted to the hospital. The bus has already been seized and attempts are being made to arrest the driver and the helper.

A case has been lodged with Kotwali police station in this regard, the OC said. - UNB
