Passengers glad as Metro rail runs on Fridays
Dhaka's Metro rail has begun operating on Fridays, providing a new weekend transport option for city commuters. While the service runs limited hours from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm, it has been warmly welcomed by passengers.
The first train departed from Uttara North at 3:30 pm, heading to Motijheel, with the return train leaving Motijheel at 3:50 pm. Given Friday's status as a weekly holiday, most passengers were families and leisure travelers, eager to enjoy a traffic-free ride.
Azizul Islam, a passenger at Dhaka University station, shared, “I brought my kids for a metro ride on our day off. I usually can’t during the week due to work. They loved it, and we had a wonderful time without the stress of traffic.”
Kazipara Station, recently reopened, saw fewer passengers due to some remaining operational issues. Masud Rana, a local commuter, expressed gratitude for the reopening: “I live near Kazipara and frequently travel to Karwan Bazar. The closure was inconvenient, so this is a welcome change.”
The Friday schedule features trains from Uttara North to Motijheel running from 3:30 pm to 9:00 pm, and trains from Motijheel to Uttara North from 3:50 pm to 9:40 pm, with intervals of eight to 12 minutes between trains.
