Starting now, all buses operating in Dhaka will be required to function under the Dhaka Nagar Paribahan framework, a move aimed at restoring order and discipline to the city's chaotic public transportation system.

"Any company wishing to operate buses on a route within Dhaka must do so under the Dhaka Nagar Paribahan system," said Nazrul Islam, Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and President of the Bus Route Rationalisation Committee, after the committee’s 29th meeting on November 11.

The meeting was convened to accelerate the Dhaka Nagar Paribahan initiative, which is designed to streamline and regulate the city's transport network.

"Public transport operators who wish to run buses in the capital are required to apply to join the Dhaka Nagar Paribahan system," Islam explained. "As of today, 80 bus companies have already applied, and the application process will remain open until November 30."

A key part of the initiative is the formation of a new committee, comprising 10-12 members, tasked with developing the operational model for the new system. "This committee will determine the business model and operational structure for the buses," said Islam. "We plan to meet again on December 11 to finalize these details."

The Dhaka Nagar Paribahan system will manage bus operations across 42 key routes in the city, with companies selected based on specific qualifications.

Islam expressed hope that bus operators would cooperate with the new system, which he believes will help create a more organized, efficient, and comfortable public transport network in Dhaka.
