Ferry services on the Aricha-Kazirhat and Paturia-Daulatdia river routes in Manikganj have been suspended since midnight Sunday due to dense fog.

Nasir Chowdhury, deputy general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), Aricha regional office, said the ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia route were suspended due to thick fog around 12am, forcing the authorities to halt the movement of 12 ferries on both sides of the river.

Besides, the ferry services on the Aricha-Kazirhat route remain suspended due to poor visibility caused by the dense fog. As a result, five ferries are stranded at two piers.

Over 500 vehicles have been stranded on both sides of the two ferry routes, causing immense suffering to passengers.

He also mentioned that, in this situation, it will not be possible to normalize ferry services until the dense fog subsides.
