Ferry services on the Rangamati-Chandraghona-Raikhali-Bandarban route in Kaptai upazila of the district have been suspended from 6 am today to start dredging work in the Karnaphuli river.

Sabuj Chakma, Executive Engineer of the Rangamati Roads and Highways Department confirmed to BSS that the ferry services will be suspended for five days from 6 am today (May 13) to 5 am next Sunday (May 18).

He said, “The ferry services are suspended at various times due to silt accumulation in the Karnaphuli river on the ferry crossing route, causing inconvenience to the public during this time.”

Therefore, an initiative has been taken to remove silt from the ferry crossing way.

However, although the ferry traffic is temporarily closed, the Rangamati Roads and Highways Department has requested everyone to use the Rangunia-Bangalhalia (Sukhbilash) road as an alternative road during the period.
