Dhaka, June 27 — A Singapore-bound Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight made an emergency return to Dhaka shortly after take-off due to engine-related issues, authorities said on Friday.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority the flight, BG 584, operated by a Boeing 737-800, departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:38am on Thursday. Shortly after take-off, at an altitude of around 2,500 feet, the captain reported engine complications and decided to return to Dhaka as a precaution.

The aircraft landed safely at 8:59am and was parked at Bay 14 of the airport. All 154 passengers and seven crew members on board were unharmed.

Airport authorities inspected the runway following the incident and confirmed no foreign objects or bird strike evidence were found.

A replacement flight, also designated BG 584, departed from HSIA at 1:45pm, carrying all 154 passengers to their intended destination, Biman officials confirmed.

Biman officials said a technical assessment is underway, after which a decision will be made regarding the aircraft’s next operation. - UNB
