Satkhira, May 17 - A 35-year-old housewife was slaughtered allegedly by her husband in Bhomra area of Sadar upazila in Satkhira on Saturday night.
The victim, identified as Taslima Khatun, was found critically injured at her home in Laxmidari village around 11:30pm. She was rushed to Satkhira Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
According to the victim’s 12-year-old daughter Sadia Sultana, her father Saddam Hossain was allegedly addicted to drugs and frequently quarrelled with her mother.
“On the night of the incident, my grandmother, younger brother and I were sleeping in the next room. Hearing my mother’s groaning, my grandmother woke us up and we rushed to the room, where we found her lying in a pool of blood with her throat slit,” she said.
Victim’s father Nuruzzaman alleged that his daughter had been subjected to physical abuse by her husband since their marriage.
“Saddam often tortured my daughter when he failed to arrange money for drugs. I never imagined he would kill her. I want exemplary punishment for him,” he said.
After the incident, the accused went into hiding.
Officer-in-Charge of Satkhira Sadar Police Station Masudur Rahman said they recovered the body and were trying to arrest the suspect. - UNB
