Acting on information, a team from Mugda Police Station conducted a drive at 'Shahnaz Villa', House No. 260/1 on Abdul Karim Road in Manda 1st Lane around 1:30 pm and recovered the body parts, said Md Jalal Uddin, Inspector (Investigation) of Mugda Police Station.
Police could not immediately identify the victim or determine the age.
He said that they found the body cut into seven pieces inside a polythene bag in the basement.
The remains were later sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for an autopsy.
Police could not immediately identify the victim or determine his age due to the state of decomposition.
Inspector Jalal said preliminary findings suggest the victim may have been killed elsewhere around six days ago, and the body was later cut into pieces, packed and dumped in the basement.
Police are collecting and analysing nearby CCTV footage to identify those involved, he said, adding that legal proceedings are underway, reports UNB.
