Two teenage cousins drowned while taking bath in a pond in Pirganj Upazila of the district yesterday. Their bodies were recovered on Thursday night from a pond in Kathalpara village under Chatra Union of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Tamim, 13, son of Nurul Mia, and Sadman, 14, son of Suruj Mia, both residents of Kathalpara village. According to local sources, four friends went together in the afternoon to take bath in a pond beside their house.

As Tamim and Sadman did not know how to swim, they eventually sank into deep water.

Two other friends who were with them started screaming for help, prompting local people to rush to the scene.

After extensive searching, the two teenagers were rescued around 9:30 pm and taken to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared them dead, reports UNB.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pirganj Police Station Nazmul Haque confirmed the incident and said the bodies were handed over for burial to their families.
