Two workers died after inhaling toxic gas inside a septic tank at Chauddaburiya village under Kamalapur union in Sadar upazila on Wednesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Ashraf, 50, a mason and resident of Chauddaburiya village and Md. Nuh, 26, a day laborer.

According to local sources, the incident occurred around 11:00 am when Ashraf entered the septic tank to remove wood and bamboo used during construction.

After receiving no response from him for some time, his colleague Nuh entered the tank in an attempt to rescue him. Both workers subsequently fell unconscious inside the tank.

Locals rescued them after breaking part of the tank. However, the men had already died by the time they were rescued, reports BSS.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patuakhali Sadar Police Station Md. Moniruzzaman confirmed the matter and said that an investigation into the incident is underway and necessary legal steps will be taken.
