A young man died after being bitten by a venomous snake in Jashore's Jhikargacha upazila early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Rakibul Hasan, 25, son of Joynal Abedin of Jafarnagar village under Shimulia union in the upazila.

Family members said Rakibul was bitten by the snake while sleeping at his home in the early hours.

He was initially given traditional treatment and later admitted to Jashore 250-bed General Hospital around 6:00am.

However, the youth died while undergoing treatment at the hospital's medicine ward around 7:15am, reports UNB.

Dr Bichitra Mallik at the hospital's emergency department said snakebite marks were found on a finger of Rakibul's left hand.

He said the victim was brought to the hospital too late after being bitten by a venomous snake, and despite treatment, doctors could not save him.
