Cumilla man killed in attack over bamboo-cutting row

Cumilla, Oct 1 - A man was killed in an attack allegedly over a dispute involving bamboo cutting in Debidwar upazila of Cumilla on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Shafiqul Islam, 40, son of late Mahakaji of Barur village. He was the father of two sons and a daughter.

According to locals, Shafiqul had a dispute with Nishat, 22, son of Nazrul Islam, and his uncle and Limon, 40, over cutting bamboo.

At one stage, they attacked Shafiqul with a machete and a knife, leaving him critically injured.

Locals rescued him and took him to Debidwar Upazila Health Complex, where the attending doctor declared him dead.

Debidwar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Moniruzzaman said police were sent to the scene and the hospital after receiving the news.

“Police are working to bring those involved in the incident to justice,” he said. - UNB
