A 19-year-old student drowned in the Dhaka College pond while bathing on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Rashedul Hasan Emon of Dhaka’s Banasree area. He passed the SSC examination from Rampura Ideal College, said his brother Mahmudul Hasan.

The incident happened around 6:30 pm on Tuesday, reports UNB.

His friends found him unconscious and took him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the duty doctor declared him dead around 7pm.

Emon’s friend Nirab, who brought him to the hospital, said, "We were playing in the field when Emon went to take a bath. Later, when he did not return, with the help of Dhaka College students we recovered him from the pond and took him to DMCH, where doctors declared him dead."

Inspector Mohammad Bachchu Mia, in charge of the DMCH Police Outpost, said the body of the deceased has been kept at the morgue for an autopsy.
