A Rohingya man was shot dead at a camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar district on Saturday.

The incident occurred around 4:45 pm at C/6 block of camp no 19.

The deceased was identified as Hujit Ullah, 34, son of Foyzul Karim of the camp.

Ukhiya Police Station officer-in-charge Shamim  Hossain said a gang of six or seven miscreants, wearing masks, indiscriminately hacked Hujit and, later, shot at his head, leaving him dead on the spot.

Police were not clear about the reason for the killing and the identities of the attackers, however, it was assumed that Hujit might have been killed over establishing supremacy in that area.

Police were conducting drives to identify and arrest the involved people, he added.
