Two UPDF members killed in Rangamati

They both were activists of UPDF, confirmed Urgent Chakma, organizer of UPDF Baghaichari upazila.



Two members of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) were shot to death by miscreants at Sajek union under Baghaichari upazila in Rangamati district on Sunday afternoon.

The killing took place around 2pm at Machalang Bridge para area under the union.

The deceased were identified as Dipayan Chakma, 37, of Morghona village under Rupkari union and Mantu Chakma alias Ashis Chakma, 40, of North Egujjyachhari village in the upazila.

They both were activists of UPDF, confirmed Urgent Chakma, organizer of UPDF Baghaichari upazila.

According to the locals, Ashis and Dipayan were having tea at a tea stall in Machalang Bridge para area in the afternoon. At that time, a group of armed men opened fire on them, leaving them dead on the spot.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (Baghaichari Circle) Mohammad Abdul Awal confirmed the matter, adding that additional police have been sent to the spot and the actual reason behind the killing will be briefed upon investigation.

Meanwhile, UPDF alleged that Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS), another regional party, led by Santu Larma, brought out the shhoting.
