House help Preeti’s death: Parents demand justice

Dhaka, Feb 13 - A human chain was formed  in front of the National Press Club on Tuesday demanding justice over the death of Preeti  Uddan, house help employed at the residence of executive editor of The Daily Star Syed Ashfaqul Haque, in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur.

Preeti parents –tea worker father Lukesh Uddang, and mother Namita Uddan at the human chain alleged that their daughter was brutally murdered after being thrown off an eight storey building.

They demanded a thorough investigation into the incident. 

On February 6, Preeti, 15, died after falling from the a flat belonging to Ashfaqul Haque on the eighth floor. Ashfaqul and his wife have been arrested in connection with the death.

In addition, various small community groups and general citizens were present at the human chain event. - UNB
