Youth lynched on suspicion of being thief in Ctg’s Hathazari

Chattogram, Feb 24 -A 22-year-old youth was killed in a lynch-mob attack on suspicion of being a thief in Hathazari municipality of Chatogram early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Md Rahat, son of Sharafat Ullah Tipu of Alipur village under ward No-4 of the municipality.

Locals said they saw the youth entering a house near Nur Masjid of the municipality in the early morning.

They caught him and gave a good thrashing suspecting him to be a thief,  leaving the youth critically injured.

He rushed to Upazila health complex where physicians declared him dead upon arrival, said Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Rashim Chakma.

Hathazari police station’s Sub Inspector Md Hasan said they sent the body to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.- UNB
