Bogura, Mar 15 - An auto-rickshaw driver was allegedly tied to an electric pole and beaten to death for allegedly stealing a mobile phone in Bogura's Sadar upazila.

Sawal Haque, 25, died while undergoing treatment at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital around 11:30pm on Thursday.

Police have arrested a couple and their daughter over the incident. The arrestees are Rezaul Karim, his wife Sanu Begum and daughter Asha Khatun. They have been sent to jail by the court.

Sawal, son of Azizul Haque, was a resident of Chhoto Kumira Paschimpara of Sadar upazila. His body was handed over to his family after an autopsy on Friday afternoon.

His father filed a case with Sadar Police Station on Thursday night, naming five people, including the three arrestees.

Jalal Uddin, in-charge of Bogra Sadar Police Station's police outpost, said an Android phone was 'stolen' from the house of Sawal's neighbour Rezaul a few days ago.

Rezaul called out Sawal from his home around 11am on Thursday and accused him of involvement in the incident. Later, Rezaul, with the help of his wife and daughter, allegedly tied him to an electric pole beside their house and beat him mercilessly.

Locals rescued Sawal and took him to hospital later, but he died while undergoing treatment, just before midnight. - UNB
