Narayanganj, Sept 7 - A housewife and her young child were allegedly hacked to death by her husband over suspicions of an extramarital affair in Rupganj, Narayanganj.
The accused, Nuruzzaman Anis, has been on the run since the incident occurred on Saturday morning in the Tetlabo area of the upazila.
The deceased, Rokhsana Begum, 30, was the daughter of Shahjahan Hawlader from Tarikata area in Amtali, Barguna. Her husband, Nuruzzaman Anis, is from Barishal Sadar.
According to locals, Rokhsana married Nuruzzaman nine years ago. Nuruzzaman works at a local garment factory. For the past few days, he had been suspecting his wife of having an extramarital affair, leading to frequent arguments between them.
On Thursday night, another argument broke out, which escalated the next morning when Nuruzzaman attacked Rokhsana with a sharp weapon, killing her before fleeing the scene. During the attack, their five-year-old daughter, Jannat, was also critically injured. Neighbors rushed the child to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
After the killings, Nuruzzaman called Rokhsana's younger brother, Hasan, and claimed that his sister had suddenly fallen ill. When Hasan and others arrived, they found Rokhsana's body lying on the floor.
Liakat Ali, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rupganj Police Station, said, "Upon receiving the news, we recovered the bodies and sent them to the hospital morgue for autopsy. The injured child was taken to Dhaka Medical College but died while undergoing treatment. Nuruzzaman has been on the run since the incident." - UNB
