Journo Swapan Bhadra hacked to death on Saturday in Mymensingh.

Mymensingh, Oct 13 – A suspected accused, arrested in connection with Saturday’s murder of a local journalist Swapan Bhadra, gave his deposition before the court on Sunday.

Mymensingh Chief Judicial Magistrate recorded the deposition of Md Sagar, 20, in the afternoon, said officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station Shafiqul Islam Khan.

Sabita Rani, wife of journalist Swapan, earlier filed a case against Sagar and three other unidentified people.

Swapan Bhadra, 55, son of Jagesh Chandra Bhadra and a former vice president of the Tarakanda Press Club, was hacked to death following an old feud in Tarakanda upazila of Mymensingh, on Saturday morning.

Bhadra was actively involved in work with both local and national newspapers.

According to police and local sources, Bhadra was known for his outspoken stance against vandalism and drug trafficking in the area. He had a long-standing dispute with a local drug dealer named Sagar.

Sagar had long been involved in drug peddling, police said.

At around 11 am on Saturday, when Bhadra was reading a newspaper outside his home, Sagar attacked him with a knife, and him fatally injured, locals alleged.

Locals rushed him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.- UNB
