Dhaka, Dec 29 - A teenage domestic worker died after falling from the 13th floor of a building in Dhaka’s Purana Paltan area on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Lima, 16, hailing from Mymensingh district.

Lima had been working at the home of Dr. Ananya for over a year, at Eastern Rainbow Tower in Purana Paltan.

Inspector Faruk Mia, in charge of the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital police camp, said Dr Ananya and a young man brought Lima to the hospital in critical condition at noon. Doctors declared her dead, he said.

However, the circumstances surrounding how Lima fell from the building remain unclear.

Lima’s legs were broken, according to officials.

Khairul Kabir, owner of the house, said he lived on the 8th floor of the Eastern Rainbow Tower with his wife and son, while Dr. Ananya’s residence was located on the 13th floor of the same building.

Lima worked on both the 8th and 13th floors.

“She served breakfast around 10 am at my home, and some time later, another domestic help informed us that Lima was missing,” said Khairul Kabir.

Nazmul Hasan, sub-inspector of Paltan Police Station, said Lima’s body was sent to the hospital morgue for an autopsy.

“The cause of death will be determined after the autopsy report is available,” said the SI. - UNB
