Two prisoners die while undergoing treatment at DMCH

Dhaka, Mar 9 -- Two prisoners, including a former BDR member, receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), died early Sunday.

Inspector Md. Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police outpost, confirmed the deaths.

The deceased were identified as Shamsul Alam, 44, son of the late Abdur Rob from Ulupara village in Sonaimuri upazila, Noakhali district, and Sheikh Jobayer Hossain, 65, a former BDR member, son of Abdul Gafur from Dargaipur village in Ashashuni upazila, Satkhira district.

According to hospital and prison sources, Shamsul was admitted to DMCH on the instructions of prison authorities at around 11 am on February 4 due to illness.

He passed away at 2 am on Saturday while receiving treatment. He had been arrested in connection with a case at Chatkhil Police Station.

On the other hand, Sheikh Jobayer Hossain died between 3:30 am and 4:30 am on the same day. He had been admitted to the hospital around 8:30 pm on March 5.

Inspector Md. Faruk said that both bodies have been kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsies. - UNB
