Mymensingh, March 18 – A 25-year-old man was killed and another injured in a clash between two groups over sand extraction from a river in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh.

The incident occurred around 10:00 pm on Monday in Taloli village, said Mohammad Ferdous Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pagla Police Station.

The deceased, Mehedi Hasan Rakib (25), was the son of Mojibur Rahman from the same village.

According to police and locals, Rakib had an ongoing dispute with local Yasin over sand extraction. On Monday night, the conflict escalated, and members of Yasin’s group allegedly beat and hacked Rakib to death.

Another person was injured by gunshot during the clash, but his identity could not be immediately confirmed. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

“Upon receiving information, police rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control. The body has been recovered and taken to the police station. Legal proceedings are underway,” added the OC. - UNB
