Tragedy Strikes as 4 Killed in Sunamganj Boat Capsize

Four people lost their lives and one child was injured when a boat capsized in the Boulai River in Jamalganj upazila, Sunamganj, last night.


The deceased were identified as Beauty Chakraborty, 50, Kalpana Sarkar, 55, Rudra Sarkar, 4, and Ganga Sarkar, 6. The injured child, Nirab Sarkar, 10, was rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical Hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred around 9:30 PM in the Boulai River, under Beheli union, when the boat, carrying 50 to 60 passengers along with goods, capsized while making a turn near Hararkandi mor, according to Jamalganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Saiful Islam.

The bodies of the victims have been handed over to their families for final rites, the OC added.
