Two girls drown in Narsingdi
Two girls drowned in a pond while taking bath at Sonakura under Shibpur upazila of the district today.
The deceased were - Soha Akhter, 10, daughter of Abul Kashem of Sonakura village in Shibpur upazila and her cousin Habiba Akhter, 09, daughter of Bablu of Daulatpur village in Monohardi upazila of the district.
Family sources said Habiba Akhter, who came to visit her uncle's house, went to a nearby pond with her cousin Soha for taking bath at noon and both of them drowned, reports BSS.
Locals rescued them and took them to Shibpur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared them dead, said M. Afzal Hossain, Officer-In-Charge (OC) of Shibpur Police Station.
They may have drowned in the pond water because they did not know how to swim, he said.
