3 children drown in Habiganj pond during wedding

Three children drowned in a pond while attending a wedding at Chanpur Tea Garden in Chunarughat upazila of Habiganj on Tuesday.


The deceased were identified as Moskan Akter, 10, daughter of Selim Mia, Shamima Akter, 10, daughter of Sajid Ali, and Shania Akter, 9, daughter of Majid Ali. All were residents of Ramganga area in the upazila.

According to locals, the children accompanied their parents to a relative’s wedding at the tea garden.

The trio went to bathe in a nearby pond and drowned as none of them could swim.

Locals rescued them and took them to Chunarughat Upazila Health Complex where physicians declared them dead, said Zahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Chunarughat Police Station, reports UNB. 

Following the death of the children, a pall of grief cast over the area.
