Stop suicide

Dhaka, Oct 18 (UNB) — A college student allegedly took her own life in Dhaka’s Shantibagh area under Shahjahanpur on Saturday evening, reportedly out of frustration over her Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination results.

The deceased was identified as 18-year-old Ikra Tarabi Khan, a student of South Point School and College in Malibagh and daughter of Towhidur Rahman Khan of Shantibagh.

The incident took place around 6:30pm at her residence.

Family members rescued her in an unconscious state and rushed her to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead upon arrival.

Ikra’s maternal uncle, Taslim Uddin, said, “She obtained a GPA of 3.5 in the HSC examination. Disheartened by her results, Ikra’s mother reportedly scolded her, after which the girl locked herself in the bathroom and hanged herself with a scarf tied to the shower.”

Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed the death citing doctors and said, “The body has been kept at the hospital morgue. The incident has been reported to the concerned police station for further investigation.”
